چکیده

Recently adjustment of laws, development of technologies and business movement have encouraged the transition to a recycling-based society. Biogas energy is being watched with keenest interest as environmentally-friendly, alternative energy source instead of petroleum. It is proposed that biomass energy will be introduced worldwide in large quantities. Particularly for Japan, which lags behind other industrialized nations in the widespread adoption of environmentally-friendly energy sources, the utilization of “biomass from wastes,” such as waste wood, wood chips, sludge, garbage, edible oil waste and animal refuse, represents a promising alternative energy source, which would serve to protect the environment from the symptoms of industrialization, such as global warming. In 1999, Fuji Electric began developing phosphoricacid fuel cell power units using methane fermentation gas from garbage, and to this day, the produced units have been operating successfully. From 2001 to 2002, Fuji Electric produced 100 kW phosphoric-acid fuel cell power units, which use biogas from garbage and digested gas from sewage. This paper presents examples of a methane fermentation facility and a sewage water treatment plant. In addition, an overview of these systems is presented.

Prospects on Fuel Economy Improvements for Hydrogen Powered Vehicles

Fuel cell vehicles are the subject of extensive research and development because of their potential for high efficiency and low emissions. Because fuel cell vehicles remain expensive and the demand for hydrogen is therefore limited, very few fueling stations are being built. To try to accelerate the development of a hydrogen economy, some original equipment manufacturers (OEM) in the automotive...

Fuzzy Control of Fuel Cell Distributed Generation Systems

The operation of Fuel Cell Distributed Generation (FCDG) systems in distribution systems is introduced by modeling, controller design, and simulation study of a Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) distributed generation (DG) system. The physical model of the fuel cell stack and dynamic models of power conditioning units are described. Then, suitable control architecture based on fuzzy logic contro...

Performance assessment of a hybrid fuel cell and micro gas turbine power system

In this paper, a hybrid solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and micro gas turbine (MGT) power system is parametrically studied to evaluate the effect of different operating conditions. The SOFC/MGT power system includes SOFC reactor, combustion chamber, compressor and turbine units, and two heat exchangers. The effects of fuel utilization, temperature, and pressure are assessed on performance of t...

Performance assessment of a SOFC cogeneration system for residential buildings located in eastern Iran

It is expected that residential units may replace   traditional heat and power production systems with cogeneration ones. Among the different cogeneration systems, fuel cell based systems are a suitable choice due to their high efficiency, high power density, low emission and low noise. In this paper, a cogeneration system based on solid oxide fuel cells is examined. The system, including the f...
